The Blue Ridge Resistance is the third book in The New Homefront series and picks up where The Guardians left off. The main characters have struggled to survive in a nation that underwent what appeared to be an orchestrated collapse, with several elements joining together to bring America to its knees. With the country and its infrastructure still in disarray, and with power struggles and conflict within all levels of government delaying a recovery, people must fend for themselves in order to survive. As the residents of the Homefront and their homesteading community find themselves running low on supplies, they must venture outside of their East Tennessee mountain hideaway in search of what they need, while the outside world begins to jeopardize the stability and security they have worked so hard to achieve. Join with them as they continue to fight the evil and tyranny in their new world, while they strive to maintain their own dignity and humanity. If you like action-adventure, prepper, SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, patriotic, survival fiction, you should checkout this series.

Note: ! never give 5 stars because I have never read the perfect book.Note 2: This review is for all 4 books in the New Homefront series (and the same review in all 4 book reviews) because I didn't stop to review after reading each one, I just immediately started the next one.
This is a great series, with characters that are well developed and believable. From what I remember, there were very few spelling errors or grammar errors (although these may be just stylistic).
The author has put a lot of thought and effort into the what, why and how of everything discussed in the books.
The story line is quite good, and believable (even if there are a couple of "boy that was lucky" situations). While the outcomes of most of the situations in the books could very well happen in the way the author portrayed them, I could also see some of the outcomes happening much differently. This is not to take away from the books, but rather, in my opinion, a good thing because it makes you think about what is happening and why it is happening the way it is, and what the consequences may be down the road.
The books cover a wide variety of locations and methods of traveling that I have not seen in other books, and each one seems realistic (I don't have experience with some of them so I don't know technically if it correct, but it appears that it would be) and is detailed in a manner that not only shows the authors knowledge of each, but also gives some good detailed information for those that want it.
I will say that book 1 especially and book 2 to a lesser extent are somewhat "slow" due to the time spent on details and character development, but that is not a knock on the books and does not take away from them in any way. I think this is important to point out because some people may be turned off by this and stop reading, but the story does pick up and is definately worth reading.
I have read many series where after 1 or 2 books, the story becomes "same problems - different day" and are basically a rehash of the same type of situations that were in earlier books with a different series of characters. That is NOT the case with these books. As the series progresses, the characters face new challenges and take on different tasks as would be expected over a period of time.
Also, each book completes the story in that book and has a "hook" for the next book, but does not leave the story of the current book unfinished.
Another thing that I enjoyed with this series is there are scenarios that make you think. Some are "would I do it that way", but some are more of a "moral" question of "would I really risk it" or "is the risk worth it" type of situation that makes you question how you would react to the same situation given the same or similar circumstances.
The books in this series are interesting from the point that you can learn a lot from them by reading them slowly and taking notes of things like items in BOBs or things needed in a SHTF scenario, etc. Or you can read the books as a quick read by skimming over the specific item/instructional details without losing the story. For me there were a couple of times in books 1 and 2 where the details kind of interfered with the story, but not to the extent that many of the books in this genre do.
Overall I would recommend the series to anyone who enjoys Post Apoc fiction, and especially to those that want a more thought provoking series, or who want more details on the what could be needed and how to manage in the Post Apoc world.

The Blue Ridge Resistance The New Homefront Volume 3 Steven Bird 9781507806647 Books Reviews
Just finished reading The Blue Ridge Resistance Book 3 in The New Homefront series. Steven has hit his stride as each book gets better and better. After reading the free digital copy of Book 1 (Thanks) I couldn't wait to read Book 2 and 3. You really get to know the characters and rejoice with them in the good times and cry with them during the sad times. These books have action, adventure and give you a great insight into different scenerios and how people cope. Can't wait for Book 4!
Not a bad read. Only thing I thought was really weird was the concept that folks would be mowing the grass when there is no resource for replacing gas. I'm thinking that wouldn't happen and people would be saving the grass for their livestock and/or keeping a low profile. If society went to heck you wouldn't worry about a neat lawn. Otherwise I thought it was good. Keep in mind that the grass cutting thing is just a tiny, tiny thing in the overall story. I think if you like this king of book that you would find this a good one.
I just cannot get enough of this story! The characters seem so true and well developed. The story starts off strong and gains speed in the rising action, and never seems to slow down. The author's professional voice can be heard all the way through clearly describing details of movement, providing a stellar use of emotions that brought tears to my eyes, but always prevailing to bring just the right amount of comic relief to ease through the tension. I have been recommending this series to all of my family and friends, prepper and homesteaders, political activist, and regular red-blooded Americans alike.
The joy of finding stories that grab you from the first chapter and keep you turning the pages till long past bedtime continued with all three of these books. I could not be happier finding another author to add to my "must read" list. Each book was outstanding. I love the doors ebooks open for new authors. As long as Mr. Bird writes them, I'm reading them.
Wow! Another fantastic read by Steven Bird. After reading the first and second volume of this series I was glad to see he followed through with this third volume. Every scenario that unfolds is so believable to the events taking place. The characters are so real they become your friends and even your enemies in their respective places. My wife even read the books and when I saw the tears on her cheeks whether it be from a joyful scene or heartbreaking event or I heard an "Oh No!", I would have to remind her they aren't real people and it will be ok. The action, the surprising turn of events and the realistic emotions of the characters that you experience makes this book hard to put down. It is a must read. Mr. Bird has truly captured me as a follower of his hopefully future novels. Keep up the good work fellow Veteran. I look forward to more to come.
Volume 3 lives up to my expectations with a rousing ending that led me to immediately purchase volume 4.
Life on the new home front continues to be a laborious task as the new members find their roles in the community. Deciding it was time to make contact with survivors beyond their bounds, Jason, Evan, Nate, Charlie, Jimmy and Ed set out on a journey west in search of supplies. They bring items with them to use for bartering. Finding life outside their little community much harder and more violent than what they are experiencing at home they quickly run afoul of the scum of the earth. What will be the outcome of this venture and will their undertaking prove profitable or deadly.
If you are a fan of this series brace yourself for some unexpected turn of events. If you haven't read this series and you are into and enjoy preparedness, do yourself a favor by reading these books. You never know what you will learn along the way.
As always, happy reading, and get busy.
Note ! never give 5 stars because I have never read the perfect book.
